The negative impacts of wildfire are increasing in communities across the U.S. There is growing pressure to accelerate systems and practices of effective community wildfire preparedness to increase community resilience over time.
Our Washington communities are composed of people with diverse identities and circumstances who live in diverse environments. Therefore, the needs, experiences, and values of those diverse community members are key to developing solutions that will help us build a future where we can better live with wildfire.
WRCD’s wildfire work spans several programs and projects. Together, these efforts aim to improve fire outcomes by strengthening local capacity, reducing risk to values by understanding and implementing specific mitigations, and advancing landscape and community readiness. Our staff works across multiple sectors, including prescribed fire, forest health and resilience, wildfire planning and recovery, and community preparedness.
