Communities have many different regulatory and voluntary options when it comes to mitigating the wildland-urban interface (WUI). Determining the most appropriate approaches requires an understanding of the different WUI mitigation tools available, including national model WUI codes, technical standards, voluntary recognition or designation programs, and guidance materials.

This webinar is intended to support policy makers, those working on policy supporting wildfire mitigation, and other interested stakeholders in Washington. Attendees will learn about key differences or similarities across prominent WUI mitigation tools and what is currently in effect in Washington. Specific webinar topics will focus on:

• Codes and standards: understanding distinctions between national model WUI codes and standards developed by authoritative organizations and an overview of what Washington State has adopted.
• Programs: a comparison of several state and national level WUI mitigation programs, including several being implemented in Washington, and an overview of corresponding technical requirements associated with each program.
• Guidance: highlights from national handbooks, guides, or other publications on WUI mitigation best practices and recommendations for homes, lots, neighborhoods, and communities.
